The Shiba is the smallest of the Japanese native breeds of dog and was originally developed for hunting by sight and scent in the dense undergrowth of Japan's mountainous areas. Alert and agile with keen senses, he is also an excellent watchdog and companion. His frame is compact with well-developed muscles. Males and females are distinctly different in appearance: males are masculine without coarseness, females are feminine without weakness of structure. Sometimes being man’s best friend is a ruff gig. Training and caring for my humans is an arduous but rewarding process. I alone am responsible for ensuring they get their daily walks. I never know when they might dare to run errands without me to protect them, or eat food without first using my keen nose to inspect it. They never acknowledge that a mere drizzle of my drool adds so much flavor. I feel that it’s wrong to keep such deliciousness to myself.
Will my humans care for me with the same level of commitment when I have hip dysplasia? Of course they will. Look at this face. What’s not to love? Genetic disorders aside, I dream of the day the humans reward me for my excellence by presenting me with the coveted red, white and blue Best in Show award.

Welcome, Shiba Inu fanciers, fellow doggies and even friendly felines (I’m not sure if they exist, but I have to live with them). I’m Joaquin, a handsome Shiba Inu who loves to play ball, hang around with my human family, eat cat food and burgers, and bark at anything that moves.
I’m about 25 pounds of pure(bred) love. Neither my bark nor my bite is bad and, if you scratch me on my tummy, I’ll consider adding you to my inner circle of humans.

God has truly blessed me by living in a loving family. My home consists of several humans and various animals. When I arrived several years ago, I grew up with a Bengal cat named "Athena" who is pictured. However, her wildness, led her astray which she did not return. I get sad just thinking about her. I also lived with two Akita dogs named "Apollo and Xena", a manx cat named "Katrina" who all have since passed away due to age. I currently share my home with another annoying Bengal cat named "Sophie" and a main coon cat named "Lucy". I hope my human parents get me a companion of my likeness, soon, before I go dog crazy!
